Doris E. Cordell, age 89, of Huron, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022 at Prairie View Healthcare Center in Woonsocket, SD. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron. Her visitation, with family present, will be from 4-6 PM on Monday, August 29, 2022 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. A Scripture Service will begin at 5:30 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
Doris Evelyn Friman was born to Elda O. and Gladys (Benson) Friman in Hurley, South Dakota on August 4, 1933. She was raised on a farm with her 15 siblings near Hurley. Growing up, she helped with milking cows, feeding their Chester White pigs, working in the garden-she could pick the potato bugs off the potatoes very quickly! She was also good at stacking hay and watching out for snakes.
Doris married Victor J. Cordell in Salt Lake City, UT on October 4, 1963. The couple lived in Nebraska, Minnesota and Michigan before moving to Huron in the early 1980's. Doris was a homemaker for her children and enjoyed flower gardening, collecting pigs and crystal figurines. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish and a life member of the Moose Lodge. Doris also enjoyed traveling throughout the Midwest watching Victor's band perform. Spending time playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was important to her.
Doris is survived by her children; Nancy Kannenberg of Huron and her children, Chastity (Clint) Erickson, Zachariah (special friend Abby Jolly) Reimer, and Coal (fiancé Elaine Kjellerson) Kannenberg; Peggy Luckett of Huron and her children, Tyler Luckett, Heather (Kody) Fridley, and Mercedez (Wyatt Songer) Luckett; 12 great grandchildren, Corbin, Shila, Nova Jade, Dylan, Landyn, Ryker, Henry, Charlie, Matthew, James, Paisley, and Maverik; and 1 great-great grandchild on the way; She will also be missed by her four sisters, Audrey (George) Sample of Flandreau, Margaret E. Adel of White, Eleanor Bjerkaas of Yankton, and Genette Rusk of Flandreau; many nieces, nephews and special friend Mary Hall.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Doug Cordell; two granddaughters, Skyla and Kristy Luckett; three brothers and seven sisters.
