Donald E. Winter, age 87, of Mitchell and formerly of Huron, died Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. His funeral service will be on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 2pm at First Presbyterian Church in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm on Monday at the Welter Funeral Home; or 1 hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Memorials in Don's name may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Huron. Donald was born on January 23, 1927 in Huron to Russell and Lulu (Meyer) Winter. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Huron High School in 1945. He was united in marriage to Korlas Ann Smith on December 10, 1950 at First Presbyterian Church in Huron. They moved a house onto the Winter farmstead after they were married and farmed until their retirement in 1990. They continued to live on the farm until 2010 when they moved into assisted living. Over the years, Don enjoyed tinkering around the farm. He used his mechanical know how, whether it was inventing or fixing something for the farm, his children, grandchildren, or friends. He also enjoyed model trains and was a longtime HAM radio operator "KHHZ". He is survived by his wife Korlas Winter of Mitchell; 2 daughters, Mary (Rod) Clarambeau of Letcher and Marla (Don) Jenks of Tripp; 4 grandchildren, Casey Jenks, Shana (Mark) Jensen, Carly (Aaron Willis) Jenks, and Kyle Clarambeau; 1 brother, Jim (Arbutus) Winter of Custer, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister in infancy, one son Myron in 1986, and his sister in law Ellen Winter.
