Obituary

Donald G. Williams, age 87, 978 Arizona Ave. SW, Huron, SD died Thursday, August 16, 2007 at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be at 2:30 pm Monday, August 20th at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Channell officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery with military rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 pm with the family present from 7-8:00 pm and Monday prior to the service at the funeral home. Donald George Williams was born May 15, 1920 at Frederick, Wisconsin to George and Goldie [Fraser] Willams. As a small child the family moved to rural Yale, SD where they farmed and Don attended rural country school. After his education he worked on the family farm and for area farmers as a laborer. He married Evelyn Twogood at Huron on May 1, 1944. They farmed in the Yale area and he also worked at Armours and Fairmonts in Huron. He then entered the United States Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on October 15, 1945 and he returned to Huron and he became employed with the railroad as a Stationary Engineer. He retired in 1965 with a medical disability. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Huron Senior Citizens Center. He was a past member of the Good Sam Camping Club, the Rovers Camping Club, and Hart Ranch. Don enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, and playing cards, esp. solitaire. Survivors include his wife: Evelyn Williams of Huron; one son: Donald M. [Zelma] Williams of Smithville, Arkansas; one daughter: Sandi [Paul] Peddinghaus of Derwood, Maryland; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters: Patricia [Gordon] Bindenagel of Roscoe, Illinois and Carol [William] Miedema of South Beloit, Illinois. Don was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Theodore and one sister: Edith Jensen.
