Donald Whitney, age 62, of Huron, SD passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Sanford (USD) Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

His memorial service was held on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Huron.

Donald Whitney, the son of Clayton and Norma (Linderman) Whitney, was born on December 14, 1953 in Huron, SD.  He attended school and graduated from Huron High School.  Donald also attended BYU in Provo, Utah and finished his Bachelor's Degree in English at Weber State University, Ogden UT. Donald worked many different jobs including manufacturing missile parts, working in sales, and as a teacher.  He was also an associate curator for the South Dakota State Historical Society. During his stay in Pierre Don worked with juveniles for the Department of Corrections.

Donald was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Huron.  Music was Don's passion. He was a songwriter and even produced his own CD called "Homeless Animals".   He loved singing and playing his guitar and would play for the Lutheran Church in town and for the residents in the local nursing homes.  Don was very giving in sharing his talents with others.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his sons: Nicolas Whitney of Colorado Springs, CO, Alexander Whitney of Ogden, UT, and Andrew Whitney of Sioux Falls, SD; stepchildren: Steven DeLeon, Reese Chambers, and Whitney Chambers;
father,  Clayton of Huron, SD; five siblings: Steve (Maxine) Whitney of Great Falls, MT, Janine (Bill) Taylor of Huron, SD, Michael (Karen) Whitney of Mitchell, SD, Tom Whitney of Spanish Fork, UT, and Bonnie (Wade) Bergquist of Huron, SD; grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his grandparents; and mother, Norma in 2014.
