Obituary

Donald E. Plunkett, age 79, of 770 12th St. SW, Huron, died Saturday, December 15, 2007 at the McAllen Medical Center at McAllen, TX. His funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Friday, December 21st at the American Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM or one hour prior to the service at the church Friday morning. Donald Plunket was born on August 21, 1928, to Everett Franklin and Dorothy (Olson) Plunkett at Huron, SD. He attended school in Huron and entered the United States Army in October, 1950. He served during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in September of 1952. On September 30, 1950, Donald married Mavis Darlene Jacobson at Huron. They lived in Huron until 1959 when they moved to Oregon. They returned to Huron after 1 year and have lived here since that time. Donald was employed at Jones Company and International Harvester as a mechanic and at Olsen Implement Inc. as shop foreman, warranty manager, and service manager. He was a member of the Bells and Beaus Square Dance Club, a Square Dance Caller for many years and a member of the Square Dance Callers Association and the Camper Dancer Club. He enjoyed camping and traveling throughout the United States, and wintering in Mission, TX, for several years. He is survived by 1 son, Allen (Cathy) Plunkett of San Antonio, TX; 2 daughters, Pamela Schilling of Black Hawk, SD, and Sandra (Mel Jay) Hathaway of Huron; a special friend, Delores Ommen of Clear Lake, SD; 6 grandchildren, Nichole, James, Lillian, Christina, Nicole and Brandon; 1 great granddaughter, Briseis Wright; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis on January 1, 2001, 1 son-in-law Myron Schilling, his parents, and a brother Richard (Marvelyn) Plunkett.
