Larson, son of Milo and Harriet (Vickers) Larson, was born on March 10, 1931, in Mitchell, SD. He grew up on a farm near Mt. Vernon, SD, and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1949. Following his formal education he worked on the family farm until April 29, 1951, when he entered the U.S. Air Force. He served stateside and the Azores Islands until September 1952. He was transferred to England where he served until his honorable discharge on March 17, 1955. He returned to the Mt. Vernon area where he worked on the farm and raised cattle. On August 16, 1958, Don married Sylvia Jaton in Mitchell, SD. They moved to a farm in the Mitchell/Mt. Vernon area where they lived and worked until 1964, at which time they moved to a farm near Carthage, SD. In 1979 Don retired from farming and began working for Asphalt Paving Company in Huron. In 1980 they moved to Huron. He officially retired in 1993. He did, however, maintain his involvement in farming by helping out his son, Mark, on the family farm. He was a member of American Lutheran Church; past member of American Legion Coacher-Goetsch Post #18 in Mitchell; and American Legion William Reaves Post #7 and VFW Forrest McMullen Post #1776, both in Huron. Family was very important to Don and he cherished the time that he could spend with his grandchildren. Farming was his main job in life, however, it was also his main "hobby". He has always been a sociable person who enjoyed the time that he could be with people, especially for coffee with his friends, or at the sale barns. Don is survived by 2 sons, Mark (Gayle) Larson of Iroquois, and Robert (VickiLee) Larson of Belle Fourche; 1 daughter, Kim (Rod) Daly of Huron; 8 grandchildren, Cashayne Larson and special friend Chad Bogh, Shalace (Jason) Bell, Shad Larson and special friend Lacey Eckmann, Cody Daly and special friend Amanda Schulz, Carissa Daly, Tyler Roden, Trenten Larson, and Tennesha Larson; 4 great granddaughters, Tessah Cronin, Ashtyn Cronin, Taelyn Larson, and Haylah Bell; 2 sisters, Lois Bamberg of Mitchell, and Mary Lou Larson of St. Paul, MN.
