Donald L. Koch, age 90, of Huron, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at Avantara in Huron. His memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Welter Funeral Home with burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron. Donald Luverne Koch was born on November 17, 1935, in Wessington, South Dakota, to Vernon and Ella (Sass) Koch. He graduated from Wessington High School in 1953 and proudly served his country in the United States Army following graduation. After receiving his honorable discharge in 1958, Don began a long career as a truck driver, primarily transporting gasoline throughout the region.

On June 22, 1963, Donald married Arlene Davis Wiand in Redfield, South Dakota. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and simple pleasures. Though he spent many years on the road, Don remained a farm kid at heart. He loved tinkering in the shop, working with his hands, and finding ways to fix or improve just about anything. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, tending to his garden, and spending countless hours outdoors in his backyard. Above all, Don cherished time spent with his family. He took great pride in supporting his community and, while his children were growing up, served as a member of the Wolsey School Board and was a volunteer fireman for the Wolsey Fire Department. His quiet dedication to his family, community, and the values he held dear will be fondly remembered by those who knew and loved him.

He will be missed by his daughters Brenda Koch, Charlene Lindsey, and Jacqueline Biaotto; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brother Jerry Koch and sisters Janice Jungeman and Jannette Kleinfeld; and special friend Emy Volz and her children Julie, TJ, Sandy, and Pam.

He was preceded in death by his wife Arlene in 1998; son Barry Koch; son Darold (Carolyn) Wiand; sons-in-law Donald Lindsey and Michael Biaotto; his parents; sister Judy Nelson and brother Ivan Koch; and many other close family members.
