Donald F. Gommer, age 70, of 421 Jefferson Blvd SE, Huron, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Society of Auburn at Auburn, NE. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 21st at the American Lutheran Church with Rev. Rick Senner officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Friends may call Friday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 7:00 to 9:00 PM or prior to the service at the church Saturday afternoon. Donald F. Gommer was born on November 10, 1936, to Carl and Ione (Wallbrink) Gommer at Redfield. He attended grade school at Redfield and graduated from Redfield High School. He also attended the University of South Dakota. In 1959, Don entered the United States Army and served until 1963 when he was honorably discharged. On March 15, 1960, Donald married Dianne Dobratz at Redfield. They moved to Huron in 1963. In 1964, Don was employed with Northwestern Public Service as an accountant until his retirement in December of 1994. Don was an active member of American Lutheran Church. He was church treasurer for 6 years, delivered home communion and ran a mean dishwasher. He was an active member of Alpha Ministry, sang in choir and worship teams and was a volunteer carpenter at Lutheran camps. He was on the Board of Trustees for Lutheran Outdoors for 6 years and a volunteer. He was a member of Toastmasters and delivered Meals on Wheels. His hobbies were the outdoors, photography and model railroading. He is survived by his two daughters, Pam (Roman) Estrada of Auburn, NE and Vicki DiMartino of Beaverton, OR; 7 grandchildren, Deanna, Marcus, Nikita and Erik Estrada all of Auburn, NE and Trevor, Melissa and Jessica DiMartino all of Beaverton, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents and his ex-wife.
