Donald H. Fritzsche, 93, of Huron, and formerly of Wessington, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023 at Avantara Huron. His funeral service will be on Friday, January 6 th at 3 pm at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. Burial will be in the Wessington Cemetery at a later date. Visitation with his family present will be from 1-3 pm on Friday at the funeral home.
Donald Howard Fritzsche was born on March 23, 1929 in Wessington, South Dakota to parents C. Howard and Gladys (Rowen) Fritzsche. Don attended Fritzsche School in Nance Township and Wessington High School. He then finished at Agriculture School at South Dakota State University.
Don married Juanita "Nete" Schamp on May 7, 1950, in Bonilla, South Dakota. Don and Nete lived on the family farm near Wessington. Don was a life-long farmer and had a custom combining operation.
Don and Nete enjoyed hosting out-of-state pheasant hunters for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but most of all he enjoyed the companionship of his friends and family. Don served on the board of the Cenex in Wessington for many years, Pioneer Seed Corn Salesman, Nance Township Board and Yelduz Shrine and Wessington Masonic Temple.
He is survived by his children; Mona (Dennis) Olson, Lisa Fritzsche, and Paul Fritzsche all of Huron; four grandchildren, Heidi Jensen, Sara (Tim) Opheim, Mariah and Molly Norman; and one great-grandson, Sincere.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Nete; and three sisters, Dorothy Brown, Alice Walker, and Linda Harper.
