Deone Norris, age 67, of Huron, SD, and husband of Terry Norris, died Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls. His funeral service, along with his wife's funeral service, will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 7, at American Lutheran Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery and military honors by Huron Veterans Council. Joint visitation with family present will be Friday, December 6, from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home; or Saturday morning afternoon one hour prior to the service at the church. Deone Arthur Norris, son of Melvin and Helen (Hartmann) Norris, was born on January 5, 1946, in Huron, SD. He graduated from Huron High School in 1964. Following his formal education he worked at various jobs while taking care of his father. On April 12, 1967, Deone enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and served as a Hospital Corpsman. He was honorably discharged on January 4, 1971. He returned to Huron and began working at the Pamida Store. On September 11, 1971, Deone married Terry Meyer in Huron. Deone worked there until 1976 when he was transferred to Hot Springs, SD, where he started the Pamida Store. Deone worked there for several years until beginning a long career with the VA Hospital in Hot Springs, first starting as an LPN, eventually becoming a medical tech, and then a surgical tech. Deone retired from the VA in 2000. Over the next several years he worked periodically in home-care for people in the Hot Springs area. The couple returned to Huron in 2002 where Deone worked for Fair City Foods for the next 8 years as a department manager. In August 2013 Deone and Terry moved to Sioux Falls. In Hot Springs he was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church, and American Lutheran Church in Huron. His many interests included hunting, fishing, gardening, and loving every minute of being a grandfather. Deone is survived by his 3 daughters, Leslie (Clyde) Shuemake of Taylor, MI, Laurie (Mike) Johnson of De Smet, and Lynn (Eric) Peterson of Sioux Falls; 5 grandchildren, Ethan Johnson, Kaleb Johnson, Spencer Johnson, Austin Johnson, and Lucas Peterson; 3 siblings, Dennis (Sherron) Norris of Redmond, OR, Trudy (James) Murphy of Tenmile, OR, and Becky (Vern) Styer of Jackson, MO; 2 sisters-in-law, Pamela Mundt Norris Gorman of Rapid City, and Janet Norris of Pierre; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Terry on December 2, 2013; 2 brothers, Alan "Smokey" Norris, and Bradley Norris.
