Dennis Denny Larsen, age 71, of Wolsey, SD, died Tuesday, October 25, 2005, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, October 27, at the First Presbyterian Church at Wolsey with Rev. Rhonda Wellsandt-Zell and Rev. Buck Hill officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call this Wednesday afternoon and evening and Thursday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Thursday afternoon. The family will be present from 6:30 to 8:00 PM this Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Dennis Duane Larsen was born on October 4, 1934, to Lawrence Bud and Azile (Darling) Larsen at Huron, SD. He grew up in Wolsey where he farmed and ranched for a majority of his life. In 1954, Denny married Betty Wipf and to this union 2 children were born, Bret and Melinda. On September 26, 1981, Denny married Mary Malikowski. They resided in Wolsey and he continued to farm until his retirement in 2001. He enjoyed talking on the telephone with his many friends, telling humorous stories, and helping the less fortunate, but farming always remained the passion in his life. Denny made friends wherever he went and people always remembered him. He is survived by his wife, Mary of Wolsey; 1 daughter, Melinda Jo (Gene) Rumpza of Grenville, SD; 1 son, Bret (Alma) Larsen of La Quinta, CA; 3 grandchildren, Jenifer Rumpza of Gwinner, ND, Alexis Larsen and Madison Larsen, both of La Quinta, CA; 4 step-children, David Malikowski of Charleston, SC, Theresa Smith of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Sandi CeFaretti of Winston-Salem, NC, and Mark Malikowski of Whitewood, SD; 6 step-grandchildren; 1 sister, Jan (Blayne) Thomas of Clovis, CA; 2 nephews, Brad (Patty) Thomas of Benicia, CA, and Brian (Barbara) Thomas of Draper, UT; 1 niece, Becky Thomas of Draper, UT; 1 uncle, Harlow (June) Larsen of Huron; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved dog Dolly.
