Dennis R. Davis, age 76, of Huron, SD, died on Tuesday, November 23, 2010, at Huron Regional Medical Center.

His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 27, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial at St. Martin Cemetery and Military Rites by the SD Army National Guard.

Visitation will be Friday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-7 p.m. and a scripture service at 7:00 p.m.; or Saturday afternoon one hour prior to the service at the church.

Dennis Robert Davis, the son of George and Lena (Istas) Davis, was born on December 31, 1933, in Marshall, MN. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1951. He then attended the University of Minnesota for 2 years.

He moved to Miller, SD, where on November 20, 1954, Denny married Yvonne Fawcett. He worked at the Miller Bakery for his uncle, Leo Istas.

On November 16, 1953, Denny enlisted in the South Dakota Army National Guard in Miller and served as an administrative assistant. In 1955 he joined the 153rd Engineer Battalion in Huron and began working for them full time. Over the many years of his military career Denny was recognized with many military service awards.

Denny and Yvonne moved to rural Huron in 1956, and then to the farm just north of Huron in 1964 that they still own and operate. Denny retired from the Guard on his birthday, December 31, 1993, with the rank of CWO4 (Chief Warrant Officer 4) after serving 40 years.

Denny was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish; Kiwanis Club member and past president; St. Martin Catholic Church School Board; Valley Township Board, SD National Guard Association; and Warrant Officers Protective Association )WOPA).

Hunting and entertaining was a lifestyle for Denny. He also enjoyed fishing and working on the farm.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne of rural Huron; his mother, Lena Davis of Marshall, MN; 3 children, Charles (Vicky) Davis of Huron; Robert (Sharon) Davis of Huron, and Karen (Rich) Bartz of Marshall, MN; 10 grandchildren, Tim (Emily) Davis, Chantelle (Brandon) Kremer, Nathaniel (Lyndsay) Davis, Garrett Davis, Andrew Davis, DenJer Davis, Jordan Davis, Jamison Bartz, Katlyn Bartz, and Justin Davis; 6 great grandchildren, Landon Davis, Lana Davis, Mason Davis, Alyse Davis, Claire Davis, and Isabelle Kremer; his sister, Patricia (Richard) Fisher of Highland Ranch, CO; his brothers, George (Cathy) Davis of Paynesville, MN, Douglas (Linda) Davis of Foley, MN, and Merle (Mary) Davis of Minneapolis, MN; sister-in-law, Bonnie Davis of Marshall, MN; and brother- and sister-in-law, Delmar (Patty) Fawcett of Ree Heights, SD.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, George Davis; 4 infant sons; an infant granddaughter, Jolanda Davis; daughter-in-law, Kathryn Davis; and brother, Marvin Davis.
