Delphay Nelson, age 85, of Huron, died Monday, December 28, 2009, at Huron Regional Medical Center.

Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 31, at American Lutheran Church with burial at Arlington Cemetery at Arlington, SD.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 5-7 p.m.; or Thursday morning one hour prior to the service at the church.

Delphay Nelson was born Delphay Dorraine Madsen, daughter of Andy and Christine (Holmgaard) Madsen, on May 28, 1924, in Arlington, SD. She grew up on the family farm 12 miles north of Arlington on the shore of Lake Albert. She graduated from Arlington High School and spent her summer helping her Dad on the farm. In the winter time she worked in Sioux Falls.
On September 28, 1947, Delphay married Lyle Nelson in Badger, SD. They moved to Huron where Delphay spent her married life until the time of her death.

She enjoyed bowling, fishing, square dancing, line dancing, and camping, but most of all she enjoyed her grandchildren. She was a member of American Lutheran Church; Beadle Bums Sams Camping Club; volunteer for Meals on Wheels; and Forrest McMullen VFW Post #1776 Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Lyle of Huron; daughter, Sherry (Kevin) Kauth of Rapid City, SD; son, Jeff (Sherry) Nelson of Crooks; SD; 4 grandchildren, Jason Nelson, Kaitlyn Nelson, Brandon Kauth, and Blake Kauth.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Maxine.
