Delores E. Leichtenberg, age 73, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Iroquois, died Wednesday, April 06, 2011 at the Golden Living Center-Covington Heights in Sioux Falls, SD. Her funeral will be 10:30 am Monday, April 11, 2011 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Iroquois, SD, with burial in St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be one hour prior to the service at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Delores Eileen Petersen was born in De Smet, South Dakota on April 17, 1937 to Walt and Gertrude (Smith) Petersen. She went to rural schools and graduated from De Smet High School in 1955. She worked at Farmers and Merchants State Bank for one year. She married Bernard Leichtenberg on June 4, 1956 in Iroquois, SD. Delores was a member of O.U.R. Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and Senior Citizens. She was a member of Saint Paul's Catholic Church, was a co-coordinator and taught CCD for more than 20 years and she served on the Iroquois City Council for over 12 years. Delores is survived by her five sons, Charles Leichtenberg Cottage Grove, TN, Mike Leichtenberg of Fargo, ND, Daniel Leichtenberg of Huron, Mark (Wendy) Leichtenberg of Fargo, ND, and Tim Leichtenberg of Iroquois, SD; three daughters, Barb Trevett of Sioux Falls, SD, Lynda Barrows of Omaha, NE, Laura Kupietz of Shakopee, MN; 16 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; her mother, Gertrude Petersen of De Smet, SD; four brothers, Darrel (Marcie) Petersen of Rapid City, SD, Dale (Suzie) Petersen of Hoven, SD, Dennis (Christie) Petersen of Big Stone City, SD, Neal (Victoria) Petersen of Phillip, SD; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Petersen; her husband, Bernard Leichtenberg in 1992, her brother, Duane Petersen and her sister-in-law, Pamela Petersen.
