Delores Goethel, age 88, of Huron, SD passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at the Stoney Brooke Suites Assisted Living in Huron, SD. Her Funeral Service will at 2:00 PM, Monday, October 11, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church in Huron with burial in the Riverside Cemetery. Her visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Delores Darlene Goethel was born on March 13, 1933 on a farm west of Huron to William and Pearl (Eschen) Friese. Delores moved with her family several times during the Great Depression and attended country school in the Huron and Alpena areas. She graduated from Alpena High School in 1951. Following her high school graduation, she attended and graduated from Northwest College of Commerce in Huron. After graduating, she was employed at the Standard Oil Company in Huron in the accounting department from 1954-1956. In high school she worked weekends as a waitress at the You and I Restaurant in Alpena where she met the man she fell in love with.
Delores was united in marriage to Warren Goethel on December 15, 1955. They were married for 43 years before his death in February of 1999.
Delores enjoyed traveling with her husband to Texas in the winter months, spending time at Lake Byron with her family, caring for her dog, and baking her delicious chocolate chip cookies she was known for.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her daughter, Diane Brune and her husband Paul of Bradshaw, NE, and son Wayne Goethel and his wife Cathy of Huron; her grandchildren, Becky (Rob) Baker, Amy Goethel, Hope (special friend Dillon Corcoran) Goethel, all of Huron; Michael (Dylan) Brune of Omaha, NE, and Sara (Stephen) Mattern of Lincoln, NE; great-grandchildren, Juliana Goethel, Ella Goethel, Ethan Baker, all of Huron, and Ayda Brune of Omaha; her sister, Marilyn Bridenstine of Lead, SD, and two nephews and one niece, Dennis (Nancy) Bridenstine, Debbie (Mike) Martz, Dan (Renee) Bridenstine, all of Lead.
She was preceded in death by her husband Warren, infant grandchild, Carrie Goethel, brother-in-law, Howard Bridenstine, and her parents.
