Delores Gilbert, age 86, of Redfield, SD, formerly of Hitchcock, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019 at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield, SD. Her Funeral Service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday June 8, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Hitchcock, SD, with burial at Altoona Cemetery in Hitchcock, SD.

Her visitation, with the family present, will be from 5-7, Friday, June 7, 2019, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with a prayer service to begin at 6:30 pm; or one hour prior to the service at the church.

Delores was born to Harold and Lucille (Rawstern) Gilbert on April 29, 1933 in rural Hitchcock, SD. She grew up on the family farm near Hitchcock.  Delores attended country schools and graduated from Hitchcock High School in 1951.

Delores worked for area families and the Kingdon Variety Store until she moved to Illinois in 1960.  She then lived with her Aunt Pearl and worked at a department store.  In 1976, Delores moved back to Hitchcock and worked at the Country Market Grocery Store.  She purchased the store in 1988. After her retirement in 1996, Delores took care of her parents.

Delores was a member of Hitchcock United Methodist Church for many years, volunteering in many ways. Delores enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, quilting, and baking.

Grateful for having shared in Delores' life are her brothers and sisters: JoAnn (Jimmy) Schley, Hitchcock, SD; Evelyn (Beryl) Schley, Paxico, KS;  Helen (Tom) Pickles, Hitchcock, SD; Richard (Mary) Gilbert, Kulm, ND; Kenneth (Shirley) Gilbert, Redfield, SD; Bernice Gilbert of Woodbury, MN, Carol Carlson, Hitchcock, SD; Ellen Kay (Ed) Haigh, Hitchcock, SD; Jerry (Kathy) Gilbert, Hitchcock, SD; Ron (Mary) Gilbert, Hitchcock, SD; Tom (Chuck) Gilbert; Hitchcock, SD; Connie (Al) McNeely, Pierre, SD; Susan Martin, Moorhead, MN; Beth (Scott) Moore, Lakewood, CA ; 51 nieces and nephews and their spouses; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews; Aunt Sarah Gilbert; and many cousins.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Charles Gilbert; two brothers-in-law, Richard Carlson and Chad Martin; her niece, Julie Carlson; and her nephew-in-law, Doug Stahl.
