Delbert John Spencer "Junior" was born on February 5, 1940 in Arlington, SD to Delbert and Agnes (Brudvig) Spencer. The family later moved to De Smet where Delbert grew up.
Delbert served in the United States Marine Corp in the 1950's before moving to Huron. In Huron, he met Marcelene Kirsch and they married on February 5, 1966 in Woonsocket and they kept each other in line for the next 54 years.
Over the years, Delbert worked at a few places but being self-employed and hauling iron-cleaning up places and selling parts was the longest. He had the gift of being able to talk to anyone and everyone and passed this gene down to many of his family members and many can talk your leg off!
He enjoyed spending time with his family—going hunting with his best friend, Tom Weber every year, planting a garden, mowing the yard, reading, watching football and racing and a lot more. He always had a great sense of humor and a funny song or story he came up with to tell the kids. We all looked up to him and will always miss his songs and stories but will never forget him.
We are grateful for sharing his life. He is survived by his wife Marcy, his son Bret (Linda Krohmer) Spencer and his daughter Kelly (Les Giefer) Spencer. Grandkids, Peggy Spencer, Ashley (James) Hufford, Jesica (Matthew) Wharton, Stephanie (Glenn) Schiltz, and Shannon (Amanda) Spencer. Great-grandkids, Hayden, Ramey, Nolan, Sage, Milo, Aurora, Nola, Jayce, Addyson, Skyler, Allyna, Scarlett, and Sophia. Sisters Mary (Bernie) Tyrrell and Marie (Howard) Blachford, sisters-in-law Marcella Rogers, Linda (Mel) Moeding, and Ramona (Glen) Naser, brothers-in-law Dave (Beth) Kirsch and Jerry Kirsch, plus many nieces and nephews and also his best friend Tom (Joanie) Weber and good friends Larry Rasmussen and Sissy Sterling, as well as many many more friends!
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Agnes, step-dad Bud Quam, mother-in-law Marie Kirsch and father-in-law Lawrence Kirsch, brothers John, James, and William, in infancy, brother Richard Spencer, sisters Peggy Lorenz, Gracie Lorenz Ward, and Delores Corbin, brothers-in-law, Roger Lorenz, Kenny Corbin, RJ Ward, Lyle Lorenz, James Rogers, and Marlin Fischer; 2 infant grandbabies and a great-granddaughter Alyssa Spencer; nephews Rodney Lorenz and Eric Robinson and 2 infant nieces.
Fly high until we meet again!
