Delbert T. Peskey, age 71, of Huron died, Friday, May 6, 2016 at his home after a long battle with cancer. His funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-7 pm on Tuesday with the family present from 5-7 pm at the Welter Funeral Home with a prayer service and time of sharing beginning at 7pm; or visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
Delbert was born on July 26, 1944 in Huron to William and Iva (Brown) Peskey. He graduated from Huron High School in 1963. He entered the US Army on May 11, 1964 and was stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge on May 4, 1967. Delbert was united in marriage to Deanna Dilley on October 13, 1986 in Huron. Over the years Delbert worked at Armour's, Swift & Co, Dakota Pork, The State of SD as an Inspector, Bales Continental, and most recently Terex until he became ill. Being forced to stop working was devastating to him but his will to fight cancer became his priority. Delbert loved to "junk". If it was scrap iron, junk cars and trucks, and old farm machinery, he enjoyed it. He was also known as "The Collector" in his family that kept most everything he came across and rarely threw anything away. Delbert enjoyed spending time with family and especially his time spent with his grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion and Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.
Delbert is survived by his wife, Deanna Peskey of Huron; 2 daughters, Sandy (DJ Maxwell) DeJean of Sturgis, SD and Nikki (Chris) Gross of Huron; 8 grandchildren, Mandy (Chisum) Hofer, Devin (Jason) Fritzsche, Kody (Becca) DeJean, Morgan DeJean, Caitlin (Robert Schoenfelder) McDonald, and Austin, Abby, and Maxim Gross; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Robert Peskey of Huron, identical twin brother, David (Rachel) Peskey of Huron, and Jeff (Vicki) Peskey of Wessington Springs, SD; 1 sister-in-law, Kathy (Jim) Fink of Sioux Falls; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and Delbert's "fur babies" Allie and Tux.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Jim Peskey and Larry in infancy; 1 son, Brian Dilley; 1 grandson, Aiden Gross, 1 sister-in-law, Mary Peskey; his mother and father in law, Ervin and Neda Fenske and 1 nephew, Joseph Peskey.
