Obituary

Delbert Ray Johnson was born on October 21, 1949, to Glenn and Helen (Kludt) Johnson at Huron, SD. He grew up on a farm near Woonsocket and attended grade school at a rural Woonsocket school. Delbert graduated from Alpena High School in 1967. On November 30, 1967, Delbert was drafted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam where he received the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged on July 24, 1970. After his honorable discharge he returned to the family farm at rural Woonsocket and lived there a number of years. The last 10 years Delbert has lived at Huron. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was a past member of the National Rifle Association, a member of the Forrest McMullen Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1776 and the William Reaves American Legion Post #7 both of Huron. He is survived by one son, Anthony Fenske of Kennebec, SD; two sisters, Bonnie (Gary) Tighe of Melbourne, FL and Sharon (Elwood) Bahr of Maple Grove, MN; one brother, Glenn Johnson Jr. Denver, CO; and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Betty JoAnn Johnson. Delbert died Saturday morning at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls at the age of 54.
