Debra Matthews, age 71, of Sioux Falls, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, December 26, 2025 at Wessington Presbyterian Church in Wessington, with burial to follow at Wessington Cemetery. Visitation, with her family present, will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday morning.

Debra Kay Matthews was born on September 2, 1954 in Huron to parents Kenneth and Arlene (Krauter) Matthews. She grew up in Wessington where she graduated from Wessington High School.

Debra was a talented IT Specialist with the state of South Dakota Food Service, Bureau of Reclamation, WAPA, Geological Survey and worked with her friend and co-parent Rick at Larson Digging, Larson Cable Trailers and Larson Demolition.

In her free time, Debra enjoyed listening to music, playing cards, softball, bowling, shooting pool, and pontooning at Lake Byron. She was also a devoted member of the George Strait Fan Club.

She is survived by her children, Nicholas (Tiffany) Matthews of Lake Byron and Sami (Hollens) Germinal of Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren, Jayda (Tye) Evers, Jeselyn Matthews, Dayton Matthews, Aydrien Germinal, Ayden Germinal, Aysha Germinal, and Carson Kolousek; and one great-grandchild, Jameson Evers; siblings, Clifford Dennis Matthews, Pamela Duxbury, Sandra (Steve) Bales; friends and co-parent, Rick Larson; and family friend Hang Nguyen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Arlene Matthews and her grandparents, Leo and Blanch Matthews and Elmer and Hazel Krauter.
