Deborah Jean was born on October 2, 1954 in Huron, South Dakota to Wilbert and Mary (Brown) Becker. She grew up in Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1972.
Deb had a love for God’s creation of life’s beautiful details. She took great pleasure in shopping and had a special eye for all things purses, clothes, shoes, and jewelry; she was always put together, stylish, and confident in her unique pieces that reflected her personality and spirit. Just as much as she loved a good find, she loved being in the kitchen, where she spent countless hours cooking homemade meals for the people she deeply cared about. Her meals were more than food; they were acts of love meant to gather family around the table. Deb had a special affection for anything bees. Known as the “Queen Bee,” she wore that title proudly, a reflection of her name’s meaning – busy, creative, and industrious - and she truly embodied it.
Deb had a rich love for her church, Huron Faith Alive, where she could always be found attending services, participating in events, and serving those around her. She devoted her time and energy wholeheartedly, taking great satisfaction in making a difference in her church community. Her passion for lending a hand extended beyond the walls of the church; she dedicated many hours to Meals on Wheels, ensuring others in her community were well cared for. Her life was guided by service and kindness, and she met every opportunity with love and faithfulness. Deb was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 50 years where she cherished her time with her sisters.
Deb cherished her winters in Texas with her husband, a tradition they enjoyed for 18 years. While there, they spent their time exploring every shopping destination they could find, enjoying live music at countless venues, and trying as many restaurants as they could fit in. They relished the warm weather and change of pace, making the most of every moment together. In the summer, she and her husband took pleasure in riding their scooters through many towns; they would trailer their scooters to new places, ride around and sight see, stop at a local eatery, and then trailer back home. Nonetheless, their trips were filled with excitement, adventure, and the simple joy of being together, making memories that they treasured year after year.
She is survived by her husband Steve of Huron; children, Marshall (Angie) Kouf of Huron and Dustin (Tiffanie) Kouf of Huron; grandchildren, Dillon (Jamie) Kouf, Delaney (Tanner Marone) Kouf, and Dixon Kouf, all of Huron; great-granddaughter, Arvella Kouf; Steve’s children and grandchildren, Steven, Scott and Stacey Anderson and Hailey and Everett Anderson; and her brother, Jon (Kathie Erdman) Becker of Chandler, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter, Dacotah Jean Kouf, and many aunts and uncles.
