Donald "Dean" Barrie Jr, 63, formerly of Huron, South Dakota, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at his home in Ingalls, Kansas, surrounded by his family.


Cremation has taken place and a memorial service to celebrate Dean's life will be 10:30 am on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at First Congregational Church in Huron, SD. Memorial visitation with his family present will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, August 2nd at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, SD.


Dean was born December 28, 1955 in Clark, SD, the son of Donald Dean Barrie Sr. and Doris (Boynton) Loban. Dean was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He later worked for the United States Fish and Wildlife Services managing wetlands for migratory birds.  Dean retired from the USFWS after 17 years of service in October of 2013. He loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed anything outdoors including fishing and hunting.  Dean enjoyed watching westerns and was a diehard Kansas City Chiefs fan and always up for a cocktail.


Dean was married to Brenda (Woodfork) Barrie for 18 years, she survives in Garden City, KS. Other survivors include: mother, Doris Loban, Dell Rapids, SD; son, Tony Barrie, Kansas City, MO; daughter, Lisa Barrie, Ingalls, KS; daughter Lori Bayne and husband Jon, Woodland Park, CO; grandchildren, Stephanie Kinner and husband Jason, Tony Dean Barrie Jr. and partner Tyler Chipley, Zachary Dean Barrie, Isaac Ray Barrie; great grandchildren, Jacoby, Xander and Gabriel Kinner; brother, Randy Barrie, Denver, CO; sister, Darla Stordahl and husband Kevin, Dell Rapids, SD; Lyla Jo Ver Meer and husband Kurt, Sioux Falls, SD; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents; father, Donald Dean Barrie Sr; step-father, Lyle Loban; sister, Sue Lemus; sister-in-law Sandy Barrie.
