David S. Waldner, age 98, of 1345 Michigan Ave. SW, Huron, died Friday, November 17, 2006, at the Huron Nursing Home. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Monday, November 20, at the Hutterthal Mennonite Church, rural Carpenter, with Rev. Matthew Stacey officiating. Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery. Friends may call this Sunday afternoon and evening and Monday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Monday afternoon. The family will be present from 5:00 to 6:00 PM this Sunday evening at the funeral home. David S. Waldner was born on July 4, 1908, to David D. and Susan (Hofer) Waldner in Spink County near Doland, SD. He attended country school near Doland and then attended mechanics school in Aberdeen. On November 19, 1930, David married Barbara Walter at Barbaras parents home in rural Winthrop. The couple lived on Davids parents farm for 3 years prior to moving into Doland, SD. They moved to Belle Fourche, SD, where they lived briefly and David worked in heavy construction. They moved back to the farm near Doland and in 1939, they purchased and operated a farm south of Doland. During their time on the farm David also did some trucking and custom combining in Kansas for a couple of years. They retired in 1979, and moved into Doland. In 1991, they moved to Huron. He was a member of Hutterthal Mennonite Church at rural Carpenter. His many interests included hunting (especially pheasants), fishing (especially ice fishing), playing cards, visiting with his many friends, and enjoying time with his family. He is survived by 1 son, Lyman (La Donna) Waldner of Doland, SD; 2 daughters, Delila (Daryl Dutch) Jones of Frankfort, SD, and G. Rae Boudreau of Brooklyn Park, MN; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara on December 12, 2003; 2 sisters, Dora Waldner and an infant sister, Susie; and 1 great grandchild.
