David Metter, age 59, of Cavour, SD, died from cancer, Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. His body has been cremated and his memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 14, at Welter Funeral Home. Memorial visitation with family present will be Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home. David Metter, son of Raymond and LaVonne (Hein) Metter, was born on November 21, 1953, in Huron, SD. He grew up on the family farm near Iroquois and graduated from Iroquois High School in 1971. He then attended vocational school in Springfield, studying carpentry, for a short period of time transferring to Mitchell Area Vo-tech where he graduated in 1973. On May 10, 1980, David married Debra Hunter in Huron. The couple made their home on a farm east of Cavour where they presently live. David's interests included gardening, building things, working on the farm with his father, playing cards, camping, hunting, and fishing when he was young. He is survived by his wife, Debra of rural Cavour; 1 son, Casey Metter of rural Cavour; 2 grandchildren, Micah Metter and Taylor Metter; his parents, Raymond and LaVonne Metter of Huron; 1 brother, Randy Metter of Huron; 1 sister, Debra Kates of Huron; several nieces and nephews; his mother- and father-in-law, William and Alice Hunter of Huron; 2 sisters- and brothers-in-law, Willis and Cherry Hunter of Sioux Falls, and George and Sue Wallenstein of Worthing; and his faithful dog, Charlie.
