Obituary

David J. Doolittle, age 93, of Wolsey, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron. His funeral service will be at 10:30 am on Monday, August 10, 2015 at Welter Funeral Home with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-5 pm on Sunday with a 3 pm prayer service at Welter Funeral Home; or one hour prior to the service on Monday. David James Doolittle was born on February 11, 1922 in Houghton, SD to James and Minne (Boesel) Doolittle. The Doolittle family later moved to Sand Creek Township and in 1937, David moved to the homeplace east of Wolsey. In 2010, he moved to the town of Wolsey and on then moved into the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home on May 29, 2015. Dave farmed most of his life and enjoyed horses. In 1944, Dave won the National Horse Pulling Contest in Sioux City, IA with his horses "Doc" and "Tony" Dave owned and operated his own blacksmith shop and took pride in his welding and helping out family and neighbors. He is survived by one sister, Wilma Cronin-Spartz, 1 brother, Harold (Faye) Doolittle; his extended family Delbert and Judy Klicker; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Willis, 1 sister in law, Etta Mae, 2 brothers-in-law, Jim Cronin and Vern Spartz.
