David Collins, age 52, of Huron, died on November 28, 2009, at his home.
His funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 1, at American Lutheran Church in Huron with burial in Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Welter Funeral Home of Huron and Tuesday afternoon one hour prior to service at the church.
David William Collins was born April 1, 1957, in Huron to Orval and Gwen (Evans) Collins. He graduated from Corona Del Mar High School in Newport Beach, CA, in 1975. He then attended USC, graduating with a Masters Degree in Business Management.
David got his start in the newspaper industry as a paperboy for the Huron Plainsman. He worked most of his life for newspapers including the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Los Angles Times, at various levels, reaching publisher at the Pierre Union Democrat. David truly enjoyed being in the newsroom.
David, in his free time, enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson on toy runs and being a Salvation Army Bell Ringer. He was a member of the Sertoma Club and the Huron Country Club. David enjoyed a life of service to the communities that he served.
David is survived by his mother, Gwen Collins of Huron; husband, Michael Collins of Huron; brother, John Collins of Southern California; and several nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his father, Orval; sisters, Barbara Anne Collins, and Beverley Anne Brooks; brother, Thomas Evan Collins; and one niece.
