His funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with military honors by the Huron Veteran's Council with burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 5-7 pm on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Welter Funeral Home.

Darwin R. Klukas was born on October 31, 1929 in Wessington Springs, SD to Rudolf and Lydia (Kreuger) Klukas. He grew up in the Alpena area and graduated from Alpena High School in 1947.

Darwin married Wynona M. Ochsner on November 11, 1951 at the Congregational Church in Alpena, SD. Darwin served with the Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on November 4, 1953. After returning from service, he took some time off and then joined the South Dakota National Guard in Huron, putting in 30 years of service. Darwin worked at Armour's Packing plant for many years.

Darwin was a member of the American Legions, the VFW, and the Huron Lion's. Darwin enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed bowling and woodworking. Darwin loved dancing with Wynona and spending time with family and friends.

Darwin is survived by his children; son, Lorin Klukas of Sarasota, FL; three daughters: Linnea (Kenny) Putnam of Rapid City, SD; Kerry (Jim) Rieck of Huron, SD; and Lonna (Henry) Fulda of Aberdeen, SD. Seven grandchildren; Lee (Sara) Putnam of Firestone, CO and Layne Putnam of Los Angeles, CA; Sarah (Aaron) Rogers of Huron; Matthew (Beth) Bowen of Rapid City; Hannah (Clinton) Outka of Box Elder; April Jensen of Aberdeen; and Eric Jensen of Aberdeen. Four great-grandchildren; Isabel Rogers, Samuel Outka, Piper Kuehl (Jensen) and Olivia Bowen; Brother Rodger (Sharon) Klukas as well as many nieces and nephews.

Darwin was preceded in death by his wife Wynona in 2015; his parents; Two Sisters, Delores and Lavira; Brother Addis; and nephew Dorin Koth.

We are grateful to have had Darwin as a Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, and friend.
