Obituary

Darrell E. Eggleston, age 83 of Huron, died on Friday, January 14, 2011 at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron.

His funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2011 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with military rites by the Huron Veterans Council.

Visitation, with the family present, will be from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 20, at Welter Funeral Home; or one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday.

Darrell Earle Eggleston was born on May 2, 1927 on a farmstead near Virgil, SD to Cecil and Pearl (Luckey) Eggleston. He attended country school and graduated from Virgil High School. He then joined the U.S. Navy.

He married Iris Hecker in 1954 in Portland, OR. Darrell lived in Oregon, Washington, Illinois, and California, before moving back to Huron, SD in 1975.

Darrell served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War from May 30, 1945 to August 13, 1954. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Seaman First Class.

Darrell worked for Weyerhouser Milk Cartons in Washington State, and International Paper Company in Illinois and California. After returning to Huron, he worked several jobs, including F & M Bank, where he met his second wife of 12 years Dorraine Wessel. In the mid 90s, Darrell went to work at the David McDonald farm of east of Huron. He spent the next 18 years tending to the farm, including his favorite heifer, Molly, and became part of the McDonald family.

After retiring, Darrell spent his days fishing, spending time with friends and becoming grandpa to many.

Grateful for having shared in Darrells life are his son, Steven Eggleston, of Arlington, WA; his daughter, Kimberly (Steven) Titterness of Marysville, WA; 2 grandchildren, Chris Kuehl and Jennifer Shields; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Clinton Eggleston, of Rapid City, SD; sister, Myrna Vancik, of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law, Janice Eggleston of Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; brother, Glenn Eggleston; and sister, Lorraine Denison.
