Obituary

Darrell Bader, age 66, of Huron, SD, passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron. His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at the Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron, with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. His visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service to begin at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night; or visitation one hour before the service at the Church on Wednesday. Darrell C. Bader, the son of Christian G. and Frances L. (Salisbury) Bader, was born on July 27, 1946, in Huron, SD. He attended school and graduated from Wolsey High School in 1966. Darrell served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard. Darrell married Arlys Bednar on September 2, 1967, in Huron, SD. The couple made their home in rural Virgil, SD. In 1991 they moved to Huron, SD. Darrell farmed and milked dairy cows until 1984 when he began working for the Telect Company retiring from there in 1996. Darrell worked for the State of South Dakota and the Wheat Growers Association. He also worked for the Huron Parks and Recreation Department and took care of the various flower beds in the city for seven years. Darrell was a member of the Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron serving as the church trustee and on several other church committees. Darrell was a member of the Beadle County Sportsmen's Club, Pheasants Forever serving on their board, and the Kellogg Township Board. Darrell was also a member of the American Legion Schmidt-Barnes Post #268 in Virgil, SD for over forty years. Darrell enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, grilling, watching cooking shows on the television, and gardening. His favorite pastime was working with wrought iron, building stencils, and fencing. He loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. His favorite cat was Charlie. Grateful for having shared in Darrell's life are his wife, Arlys Bader of Huron, SD; two sons, Brad (Loretta) Bader and Steve Bader, both of Huron, SD; daughter, Marsha (Todd) Thomas of Huron, SD; two grandchildren, Mason and Abby Thomas of Huron, SD; sister, Deanna Bader, of Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law, Ervin Bednar of Spearfish, SD; sisters-in-law: Donna (Darrell) Ward of Belle Fourche, SD, Muriel Goetsch of Spearfish, SD, and Anne (Maynard) Teppo of Fruitdale, SD; and many nieces and nephews and great neices and nephews. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters in infancy, Luella and Luann Bader; his uncle Vic Bader; and brothers-in-law, Dwaine Bednar and Roland Goetsch.
