Darrel D. Hampton, age 72, of Wolsey, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2022 near Huron. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday morning at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wolsey with burial following in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-7 pm on Thursday with the family present from 6-7 at the church on Thursday evening. Darrel Dean was born on April 12, 1950 in Huron, SD to parents Donald and Eunice (Neitzert) Hampton. He grew up in Hitchcock, graduating from Hitchcock High School.

Darrel married Sheila Ahlstrom on July 27, 1968 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron. To this union, two children were born, Tracy and Jessica. Darrel worked at Qwest for 28 years. During retirement, he kept busy doing the things he loved. He was a long-time member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron and was a present member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Wolsey where he served as past vice president.

Darrel and Sheila loved to go camping and fishing to many different places. He enjoyed restoring old pickups and sharing his knowledge, love of life and the Lord with his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife Sheila of Wolsey; his daughters, Tracy (Charles) Griffith of Panora, IA and Jessica (David) Gatzke of Volga; his seven grandchildren, Hunter Hykes, Colby Gatzke, Kynslee Gatzke, Ava Gatzke, Ian Griffith, Lylah Griffith, and Boedy Gatzke; his siblings, Jeanine (Gene) Harms of Sturgis, Rod (Linda) Hampton of Sturgis, Kevin (Lu) Hampton of Nisland, Kent (Vickie) Hampton of Huron, Kelley (Rhonda) Hoffmann of Axtell, NE, and Annette (Steve) Bailey of Spearfish; and numerous nieces, nephews, and aunts.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Tammi; and numerous uncles.
