Obituary

Darlene Sammons, age 90, of Sioux Falls and formerly of Huron, passed away on Friday, August 24, 2018 at Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls.

Her funeral service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron, SD, with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron.

Visitation, with the family present, will be from 5-7 PM on Monday, August 27, 2018 at Welter Funeral Home; or one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.

Darlene (Dixon) Sammons was born January 10th, 1928, in Madison, SD to Elmer and Ella Dixon. She attended schools in Madison. Darlene met Lloyd Sammons and they were united in marriage on October 10th, 1946, in Pipestone, MN.

Darlene and Lloyd moved to Huron in 1947. Darlene worked several jobs but her favorite was taking care of many children in their home throughout her life. Darlene's greatest love in life was her family and cooking Sunday dinners. She was a great cook and always made sure everyone had enough to eat. She enjoyed playing bingo and was very active in the VFW Woman's Auxiliary throughout her life.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her sons, Jim Sammons of Omaha, NE, Mike and Kim Sammons of Kearney, NE, and Rod and Sandy Sammons of Sioux Falls, SD, daughters in law, Cindy Sammons and Barb Sammons, both of Huron, SD, and brother, Jim Dixon, of Huron, SD. 10 grandchildren, Connie  (Tim) Grayson, Jerad ( Kim)  Sammons, Ricky and Ryan Sammons, Josh (Nicole) Sammons, Molly (Jason) Goldammer, Annie (Austin) McKinney, Justin Thies, Heather (Jeff)  Kleeman, and Lisa (Ben) Kuhns. 18 great/grandchildren: Kaydee (Chad) Zwieg, Brandee (Jake) Kelsey, Kennedy, Jeran, and Ryden Sammons, Cayden, Tony, Kade, Kendyl, Hadley, and Haidyn Sammons, Cashton Goldhammer,  Ellee , Eastyn, and Jaxsyn McKinney, Ashlynn Sammons, Emmerson Kuhns, and Zoe Kleeman, and 3 great/great grandchildren: Knox Kelsey and Nivanna and  Maverick Zwieg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lloyd in 2001, her son Rick in 2015, and her siblings: Walt, Duane, and Don Dixon, and sister, Dorothy Shoemaker
