IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Darcy
Hedlund
May 24, 1954 – April 17, 2025
Darcy W. Hedlund, age 70, of Pipestone, MN, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. A celebration of Darcy's life and legacy will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 23rd, 2025 at Faith Community Church in Pipestone, MN.
Darcy Wayne Hedlund was born on May 24, 1954 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to parents Wayne and Sandra (Knight) Hedlund. Darcy graduated from North High School in Eau Claire.
He married Susan Diekmann on April 10th of 1976. Although they didn't remain married, they raised two children together and remained as friends.
On July 13, 1998, he married Lisa A. Voeller. Together they raised two more children.
Darcy enjoyed being part of his local church (Faith Community Church, Pipestone, MN) and joined a local Gideon's group. While his faith was an important part of his life, he really treasured his family. His children Chris (Traci) Hedlund of Eau Claire, WI, Laura (Richard) Stephens-Sentell of Huron, SD, Elaine Hedlund of Pipestone, MN, and Heather Hedlund of Pipestone, MN were also very special to him. In addition to bragging about his 4 children, he had several grandchildren that he was very proud of. Ashley, Jenna, Bethany, Corey, Madison, Dylan (Ricara), Reese, Anthony, Zion, and Willow.
When Darcy wasn't with family, his next greatest love was his chihuahuas. Princess was his favorite chihuahua, but don't tell the 4 other chihuahua's or their feelings might be hurt. If you spent much time with Darcy, you knew that his faith, family and chihuahua pack were the most important to him.
Early in his first marriage, Darcy moved from Eau Claire, WI to Huron, SD. There he worked in various positions, including operating his own business, D&S Lock Shop in Huron. For a few years after that, he worked in Aberdeen, SD where he met his best friend, Lisa. They married and were holding hands until the final moments when he passed peacefully in his sleep.
Darcy also enjoyed going on vacation with his family, he especially liked going on cruises or just sitting in a shady spot fishing with his grandkids. He also enjoyed eating a good meal and playing some games, especially when that meal included some chocolate milk and ended with some ice cream. After retirement, Darcy poured himself into his volunteer work which included serving at Hope Gospel Mission in Eau Claire, WI, and then Pipestone County Medical Center in Pipestone, MN. He always found great contentment in being able to help others.
He is survived by his best friend and wife Lisa, a sister (Judy Hedlund) and a brother (David Hedlund), his children, and his grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wayne Hedlund, Sandra (Bruce) Honadel, and his siblings Mark, Jaimee, and Tracy Hedlund, his first wife Susan, his parents-in-law Phyllis and Richard Voeller, nephew John Voeller, and brothers-in-law Merle and Wayne Voeller.
To our husband, father, brother, and friend, we give thanks to God for the peace and rest you have, now resting in the arms of our Heavenly father. Your legacy will not be forgotten, our love for you will not diminish now that your spirit has transitioned from your physical body to the presence of our savior.
In lieu of flowers, Darcy would have appreciated helping others in his name. Please choose a non-profit that helps people or animals and support them in making the world a better place. Also, In Darcy's honor, please take time to say "I love you" and "I'm sorry" to those that are important to you. You will never regret slowing down and spending time with the people you love. Time passes quickly; Don't let the people you love miss out on enjoying the best of you. Don't wait until it's too late to follow Jesus or invest in the people that are significant to you.
The family wants to offer a special thank you to Darcy's care team at Avera McKennan Hospital that went beyond what was expected to make Darcy's final hours comfortable and respectful of him. Instead of only providing expected care, they showed both love and compassion to Darcy and his family. The team that cared for Darcy were more than professional; they were compassionate angels that made our worst day better. A simple thank you falls short of our gratefulness.
