Dan McFarlane, age 57, of Huron died Friday, September 13, 2013 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. His funeral will be 10:30 am Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Welter Funeral Home with burial in Restlawn Memory Gardens. Visitation with family present will be from 6-8 pm Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Welter Funeral Home; or one hour prior to the service. Dan Edward McFarlane was born on September 7, 1956 in Huron to Merle and Caroline (Deyo) McFarlane. Dan spent many summers on his grandparent's farm near Broadland, feeding the cows, hauling bales and driving truck. He attended Huron public schools and graduated from Huron High School in 1974. Dan was very active in Boy Scouts and was even a camp counselor at the Boy Scout Camp at Lake Byron. Dan had various trucking jobs and owned his own trucking company, McFarlane Trucking. He enjoyed camping, playing pool, hunting, boating, and watching NASCAR, especially the Ford drivers. Dan was an avid Harley Davidson rider and spent many winter days snowmobiling with his family. He also had a great love of animals, especially black labs. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family and friends, always making sure everyone was having a good time. Dan is survived by his children, Holly McFarlane of Sioux Falls, Adam McFarlane of Austin, TX; mother, Caroline (Jim Madden) McFarlane of Huron; best friend and companion, Robin Bernards; three sisters, Laurel (Kevin) Scheel of Huron, LeAnn Jackson of Huron, Tammi Waldner of Huron; one uncle, Butch (DiAnn) Deyo of Rapid City; one aunt, Donna Schroeder of Huron; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Dan was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Gene McFarlane in 1979; and one uncle, Larry Schroeder.
