Dallas Berens, age 64, of 760 12th St. SW, Huron, SD, died Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at his home.
His body has been cremated. His memorial service will be 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, November 19, at the Huron Wesleyan Church.
The family will be present to greet friends Tuesday evening, November 18, from 6 until 8 at the Welter Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 7:30.
Dallas Wayne Berens was born on December 10, 1943, to Earl and Lillian (Mogck) Berens at St. Joseph's Hospital in Mitchell, SD. He grew up there and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1961. He then attended Yankton College.
On February 24, 1965, he enlisted in the South Dakota National Guard, where he served for 6 years, and was honorably discharged on February 23, 1971.
He moved to Huron and was employed as a Supervisor at Armour & Company from 1966-1978; dispatcher at Parkhurst Trucking from 1981-1997; and worked in the smoke-house department at LSI in Alpena until his retirement.
On June 2, 1995, Dallas married Midge McVay in Huron and they remained "forever devoted."
He was a member of the Huron Wesleyan Church. His many interests included hunting, fishing, watching sports especially wrestling and NASCAR, and working as a groundskeeper at St. Martin Cemetery for the past 3 years.
He is survived by his wife, Midge of Huron; 1 brother, Dale (Nancy) Berens of Huron; 3 step- children, Chris Johnson of Sioux Falls, Ricky Johnson of Huron, and Beth Housman of Huron; 5 grandchildren, Keith McGehee, Eli McGehee, Cody McGehee, Cole McGehee, and Sonora Jo Johnson; 1 nieces, Nicolle (J.D.) Berreth of Brookings; 1 nephew, Brad (Tana) Berens of Sioux Falls; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
