August 3, 1930 – February 16, 2020
Dale A. Kopplin, age 89, of Iroquois, SD, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Avantara Huron. His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 22 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Iroquois, SD, with burial at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post 280. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, February 21, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron with a prayer service to begin at 6:30 p.m.; or visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Dale August Kopplin, the son of August R. and Hilda L. (Kaster) Kopplin, was born on August 3, 1930 in rural Sanborn County. Dale attended various country schools in the Iroquois area and graduated from Iroquois High School. Dale served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged September 21, 1953. Dale farmed in the Iroquois area for many years until his retirement in 2004.Dale married Beverly Siebelts on June 3, 1962 at the Presbyterian Church in Bancroft, SD. The couple made their home on the family farm near Iroquois.
Dale was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iroquois. Dale loved his church and was very active, taking on various roles in the church council and teaching Sunday school. He was also an active member of the American Legion Bensley-Rounds Post # 280 in Iroquois. Dale enjoyed reading and raising livestock. Dale also enjoyed attending his children's school activities. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his great-grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared in Dale's life are his two daughters, Karla (Rex) Sawvell of Huron and Donna (Toby) Koziolek of Iroquois; two granddaughters, Michelle (Mario) Azar of Huron and Kim (Bret) Eichstadt of Huron; six great-grandchildren, Kaydance, Ryker, Zechariah, Lane, Adalida and Dalila; brother-in-law, Milton (Pat) Siebelts; niece Rita (Paul) Wiese and nephew Miles (Barb) Siebelts.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly in 2014; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Walter and Myrna Siebelts.
Directions to Immanuel Lutheran Church:
From Huron: Proceed East on Hwy 14 to Cavour, Turn South on 409 th Ave/County Hwy 29, Turn East on 214 th St/County Hwy 29, Turn South onto 413 th Ave for 2 1/4 miles and church will be on the West side of road.
From Iroquois: South on 418 th Ave. for 7 miles, turn west at 215 th Street and proceed 5 miles West, turn South at 413 th Ave. for 2 1/4 miles and church will be on the West side of road.
