Dale Richard Kellar, age 85, of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of Huron, SD passed away on Sunday March 12, 2017 at the Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna, MN.

His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2017 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron with burial at the Restlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

His visitation, with the family present, will be from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, March 19 at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with a Rosary to begin at 4:00 p.m.; or visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Dale Richard Kellar, the son of Benjamin T. and Alma B.(Stevenson) Kellar, was born on May 25, 1931 in De Smet, SD where he grew up and attended school.  Dale worked at the Huron Grocery before joining the U.S. Army in 1952.  Dale served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954.  Dale worked for Overland Transport and Transport America as a trucker for many years. In Dale's own words, for 45 years he hauled anything that you could put in a trailer.  In 1982, Dale fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning his own truck which he drove until his retirement in 1991.

Dale married Verla Mae Phillips on March 5, 1957, in Sioux Falls, SD.  The couple lived in Fulda, MN, and Sibley, IA, before moving to Huron in 1978. In 1991, Verla and Dale sold their home in Huron, purchased an RV, and wintered in Arizona during the cold months and travelled the United States during the warm months.

Dale was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron. He was also a member of the American Legion, and the VFW.  Dale enjoyed playing cards, board games, and watching Westerns on television. He also enjoyed travelling with his wife Verla on their many adventures across the United States. His family was very special to him and he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Grateful for having shared in Dale's life are his son, Daniel (Vicki) Kellar of Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Janet (Mike) Sorensen of Medford, MN; 6 grandchildren: Nicholas (Jennifer) Sorensen, their children, Mara and McKenna.  Ashley (Clayton) Tuttle and their children, Cody and Cayden. Amber Sorensen, Joshua (Jessica) Kellar and their children, Stefan, Katina, Angelina, Zayden, Dax, and Cooper. Jessica (Christian) Graham, and Chance (Heather) Kellar; sister, Elda Mahoney of Rapid City, SD; two brothers, Don Kellar of Rapid City, SD and Vince Kellar of Sioux Falls, SD; and several nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; His wife, Verla; four brothers: Earl, Lloyd, Eldon, and Larry Kellar;  and two sisters, Marge Downes and Elva Smith.
