Cordula R. "Cordy" Scheibe, age 99, of Huron and formerly of Wolsey, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2018 at SunQuest Healthcare Center.
Her funeral service will be 10:30 AM Thursday, September 20 at the St John's Lutheran Church in Wolsey, SD with burial at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM on Thursday, September 20 to the time of service at the church.
Cordula Ruth "Cordy" Kohlmeyer, the daughter of August and Clara (Cloeter) Kohlmeyer was born on May 16, 1919 in Wolsey, SD. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's and attended school at St. John's Lutheran School and Wolsey High School, graduating from Wolsey High School.
Cordy married Raymond Otto Scheibe on December 28, 1941 at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Wolsey, SD. The couple lived on a farm south of Wolsey for a few years and then moved to a farm north of Wolsey where they lived until 1982 when they moved into town.
Cordy was a homemaker for most of her life, taking care of her children, Keith, Julie and Sue Lynn. Cordy was a gifted seamstress and tailor. She also loved to garden.
Cordy was a baptized and confirmed member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Wolsey. She taught Sunday school for 20 years and was a 4-H leader for 8 years. She was a lifelong LWML member and sewed for Lutheran World Relief and made tapes for the blind for 20 years.
Grateful for having shared in Cordy's life are her two daughters, Julie (Edward) Whelan of Eden Prairie, MN and Sue Lynn (Kim) Muntefering of Mitchell, SD; daughter-in-law, Bernice Scheibe of Huron, SD; three grandchildren Matt Muntefering, Danie Hento, and Katie Muntefering; four great-grandchildren Konrad Muntefering, Cruz Muntefering, Dreesen Hento, and Bridger Hento and several nieces and nephews.
Cordy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray in 1998; son Keith Scheibe in 2016; granddaughter, Leah Raye Scheibe; and two sisters and one brother.
