Connie Mae was born on July 21, 1938 to Alfred O. ”Fred” and Helen (Siegenthaler) Johnson on a farm northwest of Huron. During her childhood years, the family moved to Broadland and then settled on a farm by Virgil, where Connie attended school. Connie graduated from Virgil High School in 1956, the last graduating class before the school closed. As a child, Connie and her siblings participated in 4-H where she learned lifelong skills.
On June 30, 1957, Connie married Norman Neuharth in Virgil. The young couple lived in Huron briefly, before settling on their farmstead in 1963 near Wolsey. Connie was the epitome of a farm wife. She raised her four children, helped Norm by driving tractor, pulled calves and planted gardens. She loved being in her peace garden and feeding birds, especially orioles grape jelly. She was a gifted crocheter and knitter. As her family grew, every new baby got a blanket and christening dress made by Grandma Connie.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, LWML, and American Legion Auxiliary.
Grateful for having shared in her life is her husband Norm of Huron; children, Russ of Huron, Terry (Deanna) of Rapid City, son-in-law Gary Jacobs of Wolsey and daughter-in-law Cindy Neuharth of Wolsey; 12 grandchildren and 20 (almost 21) great-grandchildren; her brother Dannie Johnson of Chester and her sister Adeline Reilly of Huron; sisters-in-law Iris Johnson of Wolsey and Marsha Johnson of Pierre; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Brian and her daughter Julie; her siblings, Joyce (Lee) Rahder, Jerry Johnson, Larry Johnson, and Delores (Clarence) Wagner; and siblings-in-law, Mary Johnson and Dick Reilly.
