Clifford W. "Red" Wietgrefe, age 76, of Huron, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
His Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, SD with burial at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Aberdeen, SD.
Visitation will be from 5-7 on Wednesday, January 9, at the Welter Funeral Home.
Clifford W. "Red" Wietgrefe, the son of Albert and Ethel (Freebury) Wietgrefe, was born on July 9, 1942 in Iona, IA. His family moved to Webster, SD in 1943 where he grew up and attended school. Clifford served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1962. Clifford worked at the Pierpont Cheese Factory and at the Cenex Station in Bristol and Pierpont for 30 years. Clifford spent the last 13 years working as a sales associate for Runnings Farm and Fleet in Huron.
Clifford married Evonne Brandlee on February 14, 1963 in Newell, SD and to this union were born four children.
Clifford was a member of the Pierpont Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Elks Club. Clifford enjoyed fishing, dancing and bowling. Clifford was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins. He also loved to attend the local High School's sporting events. Clifford enjoyed spending time with his family and friends especially his grandchildren and was very proud of each and every one of them.
Grateful for having shared in Clifford's life are his special friend, Sidney Tompkins; his children: Rhonda (Rex) Gerber of Watertown, SD , Michael (Mindy) Wietgrefe of Mina, SD, Todd (Dee) Wietgrefe of Prior Lake, MN, and Lisa (James) Coats of Huron, SD; nine grandchildren: Joe Gerber, Amanda( Daniel) Pritchard, Mason Wietgrefe, Jesse and Taylor Chandler, Stephanie and Samantha Coats, and Connor and Tori Wietgrefe; 6 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Richard Wietgrefe of Armour, SD and Donald (Virginia) Wietgrefe of Fruitdale, SD; sister, Rosemary Nedrow of Sturgis, SD; the Tompkins family; and several nieces and nephews.
Clifford was preceded in death by his parents; and several aunts and uncles.
