Obituary

Cliff Parkhurst, age 74, of Huron, SD, died peacefully Saturday, September 20, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, at American Lutheran Church with entombment at Restlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation with family present will be Tuesday evening, September 23, from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home; or Wednesday afternoon one hour prior to the service at the church. Clifford Allen Parkhurst, son of Alexander and Lily (Trout) Parkhurst, was born on January 24, 1940, in Tracy, MN, Lyon County. His family moved to the Iroquois area where he attended country school through the 8th grade, and Iroquois High School. He moved to Chicago where he worked for 3 years. He returned to Huron and worked at Terrace Park until 1969. On May 18, 1968, Cliff married Sandy Meyers, the love of his life in Huron. Cliff started and operated several successful businesses including: Ace Truck & Auto Repair in 1969, Parkhurst Trucking in 1970, and Empire Tire in 1975. In October 1990 Cliff and Sandy opened and operated Parkhurst Family Café. Cliff then went on and founded and operated Parkhurst Construction in 2006 until ill health forced his retirement. Cliff's family was especially important to him and his greatest memories were the times he spent with them. His many interests included old Ford cars and trucks, cookouts, decorating for each holiday, camping, fishing, and attending car shows where he won many trophies. He is survived by his wife, Sandy of Huron; 4 daughters, Pam (Mike) Bunn of Austin, TX, Jodi Parkhurst Laird (Dean Eckmann) of Huron, Trisha Parkhurst of Huron, and Jessica (Jason) Wagner of Huron; 11 grandchildren, Jared Bunn, Siara Bunn, Lexi Parkhurst, Aaron Laird, Ashten Pomerico, Beau Mandel, Alex Lilleskov, Raysia Culver, Paige Wagner, Jaycie Wagner, and Jarron Wagner; 2 great grandchildren, Landon Pomerico, and Rydder Pomerico; 1 brother, Edward Parkhurst of Sioux Falls; 2 sisters, Irene (Vance) McPeek of Mitchell and Janelle (Glen) Martens of DeSmet; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Sharon Parkhurst; and his nephew, Shane McPeek.
