Clayton Whitney, age 90, of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at his home in Huron. A short Graveside Service will be held on  Friday, June 16 at 3:30 PM at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. A Celebration of Clayton's life will also be held on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 4:30 P.M. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Huron, South Dakota.

Clayton Whitney was born on June 23, 1932 in Buffalo, South Dakota to parents Winfield Clayton and Margaret Emily (Griggs) Whitney. Clayton graduated from Buffalo High School and then attended Black Hills State University for one year.

Clayton married Norma J. Linderman in Huron on March 22, 1952, to this union six children were born. Clayton and Norma made their home in Huron where he worked at Armour's Meatpacking as a meat cutter.

Clayton's greatest love, after Norma, was the Lord, Jesus Christ and his service in the Church. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for many years where he served as a lay minister for his entire time at the church. He also loved scouting and was a Scout Master for many years. He loved to take his family on fun trips, especially to the Black Hills. Clayton cheered for the Huron Tigers and was a huge supporter of them. He was given a lifetime free pass to attend all games as he was such a great supporter of Huron athletics. Clayton also enjoyed genealogy and was passionate about his family history. Clayton and Norma loved to square dance and were members of the local square-dancing club.

Clayton is survived by his children, Steve (Maxine) of Great Falls, MT, Janine (Bill) Taylor of Stratford, SD, Michael (Karen) of Mitchell, Tom (Luanne) of Alpine, UT, and Bonnie (Wade) Bergquist of Huron; 30 grandchildren; and 51 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Norma; his son, Don; two brothers, Leslie and Harold; and several half-brothers and half-sisters.
