Clarence "Dude "Vanderhule, age 89, of Huron, SD, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 12, at Welter Funeral Home with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors. Visitation with family present will be Wednesday, June 11, from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home; or Thursday morning one hour prior to the service. Clarence Elmore Vanderhule, son of Earnest and Myrthe (Faber) Vanderhule, was born on August 6, 1924, in Huron, SD. He received his education in Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1942. On September 26, 1944, he entered the U.S. Army during World War II and served in the Central European Theater. He was honorably discharged on July 15, 1946. Upon his return to Huron he began a lifelong career with CNW Railroad. On July 27, 1947, Dude married Anna "Mae" Cross in Huron. The couple made their home here. Mae died on April 18, 2012. He was a past member of Huron Wesleyan Church; Huron Area Education Union; and CNW Credit Union. His was an avid motorcyclist all of his adult life. Dude volunteered for many years at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. He is survived by 2 children, Sheila Anderson of Huron, and Craig (Shelly) Vanderhule of Sioux Falls; 5 grandchildren, Steven Lee Anderson, Scott Michael Anderson, Stacey Kay (Drew) Anderson, and Chase (Carle) Vanderhule, and Brittany Erickson; 2 great granddaughters, Claire Vanderhule, and Hailey Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mae on April 18, 2012.
