Obituary

Clarence Krutzfeldt, age 88, of Alpena, died at his residence in Huron on Sunday, May 30, 2010.

His funeral will be 2:00 pm Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with a burial at the Virgil Cemetery including military rites by Schmidt-Barnes American Legion Post #268.

Visitation will be 4-8 pm Wednesday June 2, at Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 pm; or one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Clarence Warder Krutzfeldt was born March 16, 1922 in rural Virgil, SD, to Hugo and Emma (Backer) Krutzfeldt. He graduated from Virgil High School. Clarence entered the Army on October 3, 1942 and served in the Southern Philippines. Before he was discharged on January 12, 1946, Clarence was the recipient of the Combat Infantrymans Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with Two Bronze Stars. Clarence married Ruth Paye on September 23, 1950 at the 1st Methodist Church in Huron.

Except for his military service, the couple lived and worked on their farm outside Virgil until his health required him to move to Huron. He was a member of the Schmidt-Barnes American Legion Post #268 in Virgil. Clarence was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting and fishing. He filled his free time with woodworking, taxidermy, doing repairs, and welding.

Clarence is survived by; his wife, Ruth Krutzfeldt of Huron; daughter, Susan Miller of Sturgis, SD; and granddaughter, Alicia Miller of Sturgis, SD; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; many nieces and nephews.

Clarence was preceded in death by; his parents; brother, Wallace J. Krutzfeldt; and an infant grandson.
