Christian Chris Diede, age 81, of 448 Frank Ave SE, Huron, died Wednesday, February 16, 2005, at Sioux Valley Hospital at Sioux Falls, SD. His funeral mass will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 22, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Cathal Gallagher officiating. Burial will be at St. Martin Cemetery with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Friends may call Monday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the mass at the church Tuesday morning. There will be a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home. Christian Raymond Diede was born on September 11, 1923, to Christian and Lydia (Huber) Diede on a small farm west of Alpena, SD. Growing up, he worked on the family farm, and worked out of the home as a hired hand for neighboring farmers. In the early 1940s, he moved to Huron, SD. In 1945, he joined the United States Army and served in Germany and the Philippines during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1947. On June 2, 1949, Chris married Mary Kappler in Huron. They lived and worked in the Huron area. Chris worked at various trades throughout his life, finally retiring from the American Lutheran Church in 1985 as custodian. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Forrest McMullen Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1776. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Diede of Huron; two sons, Ron (Catherine) Diede of Aberdeen and Randy (Kelli) Diede of Huron; one daughter, Val (Tim) Kutz of Venice, FL; seven grandchildren, Jeremy (J.J.) Kutz, Christopher Diede, Brian Diede, Samantha Diede, Robert Diede Stephen Diede and Scott Diede; three brothers, Albert Diede of Moses Lake, WA, John Diede of Huron and Jake Diede of Everett, WA; three sisters, Bertha Kludt of Woonsocket, Martha Lambert of Alpena and Carol North of Huron. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Alvina Haugen, Elizabeth French and Ruby Voss.
