Obituary

Charlotte Poole, age 94, of Huron, SD, died Thursday, February 10, 2011, at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home.

Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 14, at American Lutheran Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 p.m.; or Monday morning one hour prior to the service.

Charlotte Poole was born Charlotte Myran, daughter of Peter and Bertha (Teveldahl) Myran, on July 1, 1916, in Alpena, SD. Charlotte was baptized and confirmed in the Earlville Lutheran Church. She attended Alpena Public Schools graduating from high school in 1934.

She was very interested in piano and voice and used her talent in both school and church. She served as pianist for both the Alpena Methodist Church and the Earlville Lutheran Church in Burr Oak Township.

Following graduation from high school she attended Northwest College of Commerce in Huron and Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls.

On November 28, 1945, Charlotte married Delvin Stacy Poole at American Lutheran Church in Huron. Delvin died on August 28, 1981.

Charlotte was employed for several years as a receptionist and bookkeeper for Dr. John Tschetter. She was also employed in the personnel office of Consolidate Vultee Aircraft Corporation while living in San Diego, CA. Upon her return to Huron, she served as a representative of Tupperware for 8 years and was employed as a receptionist and bookkeeper for the LaBeautique Beauty Salon. Charlotte then served as manager of the French Miss and French Lady Beauty Salons until her retirement in 1981. At that time she moved to rural Wessington Springs to care for her brother. In 1983, Charlotte returned to live in Huron spending several winters in New Mexico with her sister.

Charlotte was a long time member of American Lutheran Church in Huron where she was also active in the church choir, hand bell choir, and Martha Circle. She was a 65-year member of the American Legion William Reaves Post #7 Auxiliary having served terms as both President and District Secretary. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary Chorus, and 8 et 40 past Chapeau. Charlotte served as Historian for the Sons of Norway and was active in the Beadle County ARC and South Dakota ARC. She served on the Board of Directors of the Center for Independence and was a charter member of the Huron Area Senior Center.

Charlotte is survived by a sister-in-law, Millicent Poole of Shelton, WA; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 4 brothers and spouses, Palmer (Ethel) Myran, Melvin (Ida) Myran, Oswald (Mildred) Myran, and Conrad (Viola) Myran; sister, Christine (Hugh) Miller; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Poole; 3 nephews, James Myran, Larry Myran, and Jack Poole; and a niece, DeAnn Myran.
