Charlotte I. Hays, age 92, of 1345 Michigan Ave SW, Huron, died Sunday, April 11, 2004, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 14th, at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Rinearson officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call this Tuesday afternoon and evening and Wednesday until the time of service at the Welter Funeral Home. Charlotte Hays was born Charlotte Ione Struve on January 1, 1912, to Gustav H. and Charlotte (Immer) Struve at Geddes, SD. Charlotte attended grade school in the Geddes area and graduated from Geddes High School in 1931, and then attended Sioux City Business College at Sioux City, IA. Later she moved to Huron and worked for Standard Oil, and then the Department of Agriculture for nine years, and then the Bureau of Reclamation for 27 years, where she was in charge of office services, until her retirement in June 1974. On July 29, 1947, Charlotte married Leonard D. Hays at Huron. They owned and operated Valley Garden until retiring. She was an avid sportsman and was involved in trap shooting, fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and NAARFE. She is survived by one brother, Donald (Arlie) Struve of Downey, CA; one sister-in-law, Angeline Struve of Washington; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard on June 25, 1979; her parents; two sisters, Ruth Taylor, and Lyla Houston; and a brother, Eldon Struve.
