Charles Single, age 85, of 831 Lincoln Ave. SW, Huron, died Thursday, November 1, 2007, at the violet Tschetter Memorial Home. His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Monday, November 5, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Rinearson officiating. His body will be cremated following the funeral service. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday at the Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM or Monday morning one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Charles Frederick Single was born on October 3, 1922, to John and Barbara (Kusser) Single at Highmore, SD. He received his education in Peno Township, rural Highmore. On June 6, 1951, Charles married Ruth Weber at Highmore. For the first part of Charles life he was a farmer-rancher. The couple lived on the farm in Hyde County, Peno Township. They raised 6 children together. In his early years he enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to sales, piloting his airplane, and doing mechanic work. He was very good at fixing old cars and did most of his own mechanic work on the farm. Charles and Ruth were divorce in 1987. Charles met Ruth Horsley Thomas and they began their life together in 1988. This was Charles retirement years and they enjoyed dancing, traveling, and spending winters in Yuma, AZ, and summers in Huron. The met and made a lot of good friends along the way. He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Huron; 6 children, Janice Nickelson and Dave of Sturgis, SD, Sandra (Richie) Leblang of Bismarck, ND, Wanda (Greg) Myers of Onida, SD, Gail (Cal) Thybo of Reva, SD, Roberta (Darin) Noyce of Aladdin, WY, and Dan (Shelly) Single of Highmore, SD; 13 grandchildren, Stacey Nickelson, Dawn (John) Curnow, Jared Nickelson, Alex Nickelson, Ben (Julie) Myers, Tom Myers, Teresa Thybo, Tyrel Thybo, Ashley Thybo, Walker Noyce, Laramie Noyce, Logan Single, and Shantel Single; 6 great grandchildren, Tyler Nickelson, Hannah Nickelson, Madeline Curnow, John Curnow, Jr., Raileyn Myers, and Laeyn Myers; 2 step-great grandchildren, Kaitleyn Klave and Dustyn Klave; 2 step-children, Richard (Sharyl) Thomas and Judy (Steve) Glanzer; 2 step-grandchildren, Jeffrey (Jeni) Thomas and Stephanie (Terry) Wicks; 3 step-great grandchildren, Dylan Wicks, Kelly Wicks, and Shane Wicks. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 step grandson, Eric Glanzer, 1 brother, Henry Single; and 1 sister, Rose Nilsen.
