Charles Gamber, age 88, of Huron, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the South Dakota Veteran's Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. His Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. Burial, at a later date, will be in Pitrodie Cemetery near Carpenter, SD. Visitation, with the family present, will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, Charles Nichols Gamber. Charles was born on July 24, 1934 to Charles and Ruth (Walker) Gamber at Carpenter, South Dakota. Growing up in the Carpenter area, Charles took advantage of the rural environment. He became an avid hunter and loved the outdoors.

Charles joined the Army and was stationed in Korea. Upon his return to South Dakota, Charles worked for several area farmers, worked as a well driller and completed his career as a highway maintenance worker for Beadle County.

Charles loved his many trips to Las Vegas each year. His pilgrimages took him many places, including one of his favorite trips to the World's Fair in San Antonio, Texas. Flying to casinos in Nevada was great enjoyment to Charles in his retirement years. Most of these excursions were taken with his brother and buddy, William Gamber.

Grateful for sharing Charles' life are his sisters, Joan Gilbert of Colorado, June (Dale) Metter of Huron, Jinx (Steve) Richards of Rapid City; brothers, Bill and Howard Gamber of Huron, David (Charlotte) of Emery, and Royal (Arlyce) of Nevada; Charles also leaves many nieces and nephews to celebrate his life.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ruth; his stepfather, Carrol "Fritz" Nelson; brothers, Jack, Rodney, Gary, James Gamber, and Randy Nelson; brother-in-law, Merlyn Gilbert' and sisters-in-law, Daisy and Marlys Kay Gamber.
