Obituary

Charles Durwood Bennett, age 76, of Huron passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026 at his home. A celebration of life hosted by Chuck's friends will be planned for a later date.

Chuck was born September 4, 1949, the fifth child of Blaine and Vera (Remington) Bennett.

He attended Huron schools and graduated in 1968. Chuck held some track records and enjoyed a foot race now and then.

After graduation he was an auto mechanic for Osmond Buick. He ventured to California installing fence with his brother, Rollie. Chuck tried life in Minnesota working for an Oldsmobile dealership, but South Dakota kept calling him home.

Chuck settled in Huron working with his dad at Bennett's Saw Shop and Repair.

Linda Moeding came into his life in 1972. They divorced in 1990.

There is almost nothing Chuck would not do for a friend or someone in distress. Many times he would throw on his coat and head off to start a cold, cantankerous jalopy. Sometimes towing it into the shop to warm up.

Some of his loves were Oldsmobiles, motorcycles, tall ships and drag races. Chuck spent hours checking asparagus patches and tree strips for old cars and building "Gee Jaws."

At the end he spent his time swapping stories about the good old days and playing dominos over beers.

He is survived by his son, Charlie (Tammy) Bennett and granddaughter Savannah Rose, all of Dallas, TX; sister, Franny DeMers of Oregon; special nephew, Scott Bennett of Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, brothers, Bud and Rollie, and sister, Connie Albrecht.
