Obituary

Cecil Belle Miller, age 91, of Huron, died Sunday, December 8, 2013, at the Golden Living Center of Redfield. Her funeral service will be 2:00 pm Friday, December 13, 2013, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial at the Frankfort Cemetery in Frankfort, SD. Visitation with family present will be from 5-7 pm Thursday, December 12, 2013, at Welter Funeral Home; or Friday afternoon one hour prior to the service. Cecil Belle Miller was born on August 8, 1922 to Samuel and Myrtle (Hamm) Christensen in Doland, SD. She graduated from Frankfort High School, Frankfort, SD, in 1942. On June 16, 1943, Cecil married Orville Fredrick Miller at Aberdeen, SD. They lived at Huron for two years before moving to Tulare, SD and in 1950 they moved back to Huron. Cecil worked at Armour's and Company for a number of years early in the marriage. She babysat and helped remodel the basement of their home when they lived on Beach Avenue in Huron. In 1966 they moved to a small farm south of Wolsey. In the 1970's they suffered a huge loss when their house burned down. They moved in a modular home and continued to live on the farm. After Orville passed away in 2000, Cecil remained on the farm with their youngest son, Jeff. In 2006 a tornado went through, destroying the big barn and most of the smaller buildings, plus damaging the house. Cecil and Jeff persevered and continued to live on the farm which Cecil loved. Cecil always had a tender heart and rescued many abused and neglected animals by nursing them back to health after they came into her care. Cecil also had a thriving business raising purebred toy Pomeranian dogs. She loved farm life and enjoyed raising calves, lambs, and poultry, which included peacocks and exotic pheasants. She also liked to garden and play cards. Because of Cecil's declining health, they sold the farm in the fall of 2012 and moved into Huron. Soon after, she was hospitalized and spent some time at Sunquest Health Care Center. After another hospitalization, this fall, Cecil could no longer be at home. She was admitted to the Golden Living Center in Redfield, SD, on November 19, 2013. Cecil passed away early Sunday morning at the Golden Living Center attaining the age of 91 years and four months. Cecil is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Miller of Huron, Orville Larry (Twyla) Miller of Huron; one daughter, Dona (Tony) Vecchi of North Ogden, Utah; five grandchildren, Lee (Janelle) Peterson of Sedgefield, South Africa, Melissa (Charles) Leierer of Williamstown, WV, Carrie Asmus of Arlington Heights, IL, Todd (Jennifer) Asmus of Lincoln, NE, and Paul (Kim) Vecchi of Cottage Grove, WI; two step-grand-daughters, Nancy (Brian) Wicker of Wessington Springs, Wendy (Mark) McDermaid of Huron; fourteen great-grandchildren, Samantha, Carissa, Jordan, Emmaliese, Myles, Autumn, Amanda, and Zachary Peterson, Christian and Hannah Leierer, Emma, Norah and Elliott Asmus, and Anthony Vecchi; six step-great-grandchildren; Trever Erdahl, Gracie Wicker, and Samuel, Yovela, Eliana and Jonah McDermaid; one son-in-law, Richard Asmus of York, NE; three sisters-in-law, Irma Kietzke of Sturgis, Elsie Miller of Redfield, and Dorothy Allen of Colorado Springs, CO; special friend, Nila Ondricek, Huron; many nieces and nephews.
